Open Letter to all YPM's (Young Professional Men)
Guys,
I have finally had it… I am sick of seeing Young Professional Men live at 50% of what they are capable of at work, in their relationships, finances, and fitness levels.
Where do most of us turn when we feel the anxiety of living at 50%? Let’s look at the most common avenues:
- Men’s Magazines (mostly filled with pictures of women, nice toys, or thoughts on how to have more exciting sex – treating the symptoms or trying to numb the pain but not get to the root cause)
- Driving Ourselves More at Work (usually leads to burnout and more questions like ‘Why I am doing this?’)
- Something New – a Relationship, Drink, Drug, Toy, Book, Food, or Porn to numb the pain
These are clearly not working. It’s time that we band together to make ourselves better.
I just bought a new book last week called ‘Who’s Got Your Back’ by Keith Ferrazzi. I would highly recommend that you get it. In fact, I think it would be great if our first group activity is a study of this book.
In this book, Keith talks about 4 mindsets that create the foundation for ‘lifeline’ relationships:
- Generosity
- Vulnerability
- Candor
- Accountability
My vision is to establish an online community and Blog as a place to bring Young Professional Men together to discuss the issues that so often cause us to stumble and not achieve our goals. I know it won’t be easy as I have found that building and keeping male friendships (especially those that involve the 4 mindsets above including vulnerability) has been one of my greatest challenges over the last 5 years.
I have already started this Blog and a Facebook group to be the starting point of our community. Down the road, I would like to organize accountability groups for Young Professional Men in every major city in North America.
It’s time we all started living at 100% and started achieving the wild and crazy dreams that we keep repressing or telling ourselves to hold off on… are you with me?
