Why Did it Take God 6 Days to Create the Earth?
Check this out… according to the Bible, here is what God created on Day 1 and Day 2 in the book of Genesis:
- Day 1 – Created Heavens and Earth, created light, separated the light from the darkness – called light ‘day’ and darkness ‘night’
- Day 2 – Separated the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens – called the waters of the heavens ’sky’
My Question for God: ‘Why not combine the activities of Day 1 and Day 2 to get more done?’
God’s Answer (I am guessing as he actually didn’t respond verbally): ‘I know what I am doing, kid.’
Currently, I am in the midst of my own Day 1 or Day 2 creation in setting up this Blog and a Life Coaching practice focused on improving the lives of Young Professional Men (YPM’s.) While on Day 1 or 2, it’s really easy for me to get caught up in the pressure, anxiety, and stress of all that needs to be created (ie. Day 3-6 stuff) like setting up a website, posting on my blog, using Twitter/Facebook/Linked-In, etc. There is always more and more to do, read, or learn.
However, this morning, I tried to look at creation of the earth (slightly more important than what I am doing!) from God’s perspective. It appears that he went about a major task like this with much more ease… here is what I see in my imagination (by the way, I am pretty sure God would speak in italics and bold):
‘I have some big things to do today here on Day 1, such as creating the Heavens and Earth… I will do my best at that and leave Day 2 stuff, such as creating the sky, for Day 2.’
There’s a freedom and ’lightness’ for me in seeing that God handled the creation of the earth as a 6 day process… no rushing, pressure, or anxiety around trying to do more in less time.
What are you creating right now that you feel anxiety over because you are trying to do Day 2 stuff on Day 1?
